*IN THE BEGINNING, MAURICE TOMBRAGEL BEGAN SUBMITTING
SCREEN STORY
TREATMENTS TO HOLLYWOOD STUDIO WRITING DEPARTMENTS. THEN IN 1938, HE WAS
CONTACTED BY UNIVERSAL PICTURES, INFORMING HIM THAT HIS STORY:
"TROPIC FURY"(1939)(A.K.A "FURY OF THE TROPICS" WAS BEING CONSIDERED
FOR
A 1939 FEATURE FILM RELEASE.
FROM 1939 TO 1944, MAURICE TOMBRAGEL WAS PART OF THE WRITING STAFF AT
UNIVERSAL. DURING HIS STAY, HE WAS PAIRED WITH OTHER STAFF WRITERS TURNING
OUT SCREEN STORIES AND SCRIPTS RANGING FROM ADVENTURES TO WESTERNS.
TOMBRAGEL ALSO COLLABORATED ON TWO CLIFF-HANGER SERIALS TITLED:
"THE GREAT ALASKAN MYSTERY(1944)(A.K.A."THE GREAT NORTHERN MYSTERY"(1944)
AND "MYSTERY OF THE RIVERBOAT"(1944).
AFTER HIS STINT AT UNIVERSAL, MAURICE TOMBRAGEL WENT OVER TO
COLUMBIA PICTURES, WORKING ON CRIME-MYSTERY TYPE SCRIPTS.
HIS CREDITS INCLUDED:
"LONE WOLF IN MEXICO"(1947),
"TRAPPED BY BOSTON BLACKIE'(1948),
THE RETURN OF THE WHISTLER"(1948).
WITH THE COMPLETION OF OTHER PROJECTS, MAURICE BEGAN GETTING MORE INVOLVED
WITH B-WESTERNS. IN 1950 HE WAS HIRED BY LIPPERT PICTURES TO
SCRIPT SIX WESTERNS. INCLUDED WERE:
"THE DALTON'S WOMEN"(1950),
"MARSHAL OF HELDORADO"(1950),
"COLORADO RANGER"(1950)
"WEST OF THE BRAZOS"(1950),
"HOSTILE COUNTRY"(1950),
AND "COLORADO RIVER"(1950).
THEN CAME THE TRANFORMATION TO TELEVISION. IN 1951 MAURICE TOMBRAGEL
STARTED WRITING ON A REGULAR BASIS FOR
"ADVENTURES OF WILD BILL HICKOK(1951-1958).
HE WAS A HEAVY CONTRIBUTOR FOR SEASONS ONE AND TWO OF THE SERIES.

"NINE LIVES OF EL FEGO BACA"(1958),
THE ADVENTURES OF GALLEGHER"(1964).
TOWARDS THE END OF HIS CAREER, MAURICE TOMBRAGEL WROTE MOSTLY
MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES AND A COUPLE OF LOW-BUDGET FEATURES.
OVER THE YEARS HE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY OF WORKING WITH SOME GREAT DIRECTORS
LIKE: JOHN RAWLINS, JEAN YARBROUGH, D.ROSS LEDERMAN, SAM NEWFIELD,
AND THOMAS CARR.
IN 1973 MAURICE TOMBRAGEL DECIDED IT WAS TIME TO RETIRE HIS TYPEWRITER
WITH ONE LAST SCRIPT. A FILM TITLED: "RUNNING WILD"(1973);
THAT KINDA SUMS UP THE CAREER OF THIS GIFTED WRITER.*
