From Dubuque, Iowa on the set of "F.I.S.T."
Guests:
actor Sylvester Stallone
and Frank Stallone
director Norman Jewison
actress Melinda Dillon
and actor Henry Wilcoxon.

*NOTE: The taping for the Mike Douglas Show took place at the old downtown manufacturing building
where some of the film's principal scenes are being shot.
The film follows the labor movement of the 30s, 40s and 50s.

As Douglas took a seat next to Stallone and began an interview, Stallone hit the horn of the old car. The loud "a-oo-ga, a-oo-ga,"
that followed startled Douglas and brought more laughs. "That was funny," said Douglas. "We'll keep that in."
Then Stallone explained to Douglas that he plays a character named Johnny Kovak who witnesses the injustices done to laborers
and truck drivers and sets out to organize them into a powerful union.
He said the film's major strike and fight scenes will be shot at the building.
As the conversation droned on, so did the Ford's old motor — and it started to get hot. Stallone had been trying to
shut it off unobtrusively for several minutes.
Finally Stallone, who never seems to be able to deny an impulse, stood up in the car and yelled to crewmen:
"Get me an elephant gun. We've got to kill this motor."
"I used to have one of these," said Douglas. "Just put it in gear and step on the brake and the motor will die."
Stallone did and the car lurched, then went silent. And the interview went on.
Quote:
"Can you really do pushups with one arm?" Douglas asked. Stallone answered, "At the risk of destroying my credibility as a serious actor ... "
and got down on the dirty cement driveway and did a series of pushups with his right arm, then another series with his left.
Then he did some more with both arms with a series of hand claps between "Sorry I doubted you." said Douglas.

*NOTE: From the California Van Nuys News June 26, 1977
No one is more surprised than Mike Douglas that Robert DeNiro will be featured as a guest pn the Mike Douglas Show.
The reclusive Robert had never made a TV talk show appearance, and never intended to. In fact, he didn't even intend to
accompany his wife, Diahnne Abbott fo Philadelphia for her taping of Mike's program last Monday (6/20).
But when the Douglas Show limousine pulled up before the DeNiro Manhattan residence to whisk Diahnne to the station,
Bob also decided to ride along. He stood in the wings during the first part of his wife's TV interview, liked the way Douglas
was handling the session — and suddenly decided to stroll before the cameras and make it a three-way video conversation.
That conversation (which will be telecast around the country in early July) ranged from his "New York, New York" picture
in which Diahnne is featured, to what life is like for the DeNiros in private.
