Part One interview with Katharine Hepburn
"I'm a personality as well as an actress. Show me an actress who isn't a
personality and you'll
show me a woman who isn't a star". - Katharine Hepburn
A three hour conversation with Kate that Dick calls, "the best interview I've
ever done".
There are no film clips - simply Hepburn in an engaging appraisal of her long
career
and independent life style.
On acting: "I go mad when I hear English actors are better than American actors.
I just think
American actors can't speak the English language properly. That's why I did
Shakespeare."
On other actors:
Spencer Tracy - "the great artist, his concentration was pure. I learned a great
deal from him."
Leslie Howard - "fired me ... I was an inch taller than him".
On her success: "I'm lucky because I was born with energy, with a combination of
qualities
that were apparently interesting. I was just lucky to be colorful."

Host Dick Cavett
Guests
Tom Hayden, Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin and Rennie Davis
discuss "Radical Movements of the 60s"..
*Note: This show was pulled from the air by ABC fearing that the four young
men's opinions were still too radical
for the average American viewer. The network's action drew censure from many
sides rather leaving ABC with
egg on their face. A solution was found to get some conservatives to comment on
the opinions of Davis, Hayden,
Hoffman and Rubin, tack it on the end of the original program and air it after
all.
The pulled show would air March 21, 1974 with the added half hour of
conservative comments by Jeffrey St. John
and Fran Griffin. St. John was the "Spectrum" commentator on CBS Morning News
and Griffin was the Illinois State
Chairman of the Young Americans for Freedom.
