*Note: Paparazzi photog Ron Galella asked Brando to remove his sunglasses for
just a few
pictures when Brando uncorked a right hook that broke his right jaw. The run in
occured on
Manhattan Street as Cavett and Brando were walking towards a Chinatown
restaurant after
taping ABC-TV's The Dick Cavett Show.
On the Cavett show Brando, who had just returned from Tahiti, devoted most of
his 90 minute
interview to a plea for Indian rights. He said he never got to Wounded Knee,
S.D. to join the
Indian protest there last March because he feared his presence would bring
charges that he
was part of a plot to grab headlines.
He had sent a Sasheen Littlefeather to the Academy Awards ceremony and she had
said he
was on his way to Wounded Knee where he felt he would be of better use.
