Premise:
Events in the lives of four girls (Blair, Jo, Tootie and Natalie) as they grow from adolescence to young
women. Early episodes are set at Eastland School for Girls in Peekskill, New York.

Later, when Blair and Jo attend Langley College, former teacher Edna Garrett opens "Edna's Edibles", a gourmet
food store. When this is destroyed by fire, Edna and the girls open "Over Our Heads" a variety store.

In September 1986, at the start of season 8 when Edna Garrett (Charlotte Rae) marries Robert Gaynes (Robert Mandan),
her sister,  Beverly Ann (Cloris Leachman) replaces her as a substitute mother to the girls.
