Premise:
The misadventures of two of New York's finest
(a Mutt and Jeff pair) in the mythical 53rd precinct in the Bronx.
Toody, the short, stocky and dim-witted one either saves the day
or muffs things up much to the chagrin of Muldoon, the tall, lanky
and smart one.
A crack comedy series with real control in the writing and  excellent characterizations.
From the creator of 'Sgt Bilko' in
The Phil Silvers Show: You'll Never Get Rich: Sgt. Bilko (CBS/Nat Hiken)(1955-59)

Joe E. Ross played Sgt. Rupert Ritzik in 'The Phil Silvers Show'

Fred Gwynne returned to television in 1964-66 as Herman Munster in '
The Munsters (CBS)(1964-66).

'Car 54, where are you?' theme tune
words by Nat Hiken music by John Strauss

"There's a holdup in the Bronx,
Brooklyn's broken out in fights...
There's a traffic jam in Harlem
That's backed up to Jackson Heights...
There's a Scout Troop that's short a child
Kruschev's due at Idlewild....
Car 54 where are you?
"
