UK Spy series 1960-61 39 episodes x 30 min bw
Starring
Patrick McGoohan as Secret Agent John Drake
recurring:
Richard Wattis as Hardy, Drake's boss
The first episode of Season One aired in Britain on September 11th 1960. As
mentioned elsewhere, each of these
episodes ran for only thirty minutes. All began with John Drake walking from a
Washington Federal Building,
lighting a cigarette and then ducking across the street to his white sports car.
The voiceover ran as follows ;
'Every Government has its Secret Service Branch. America its CIA, France
Deuxieme Bureau, England MI5.
A messy job? Well, that's when they usually call on me. Or someone like me. Oh
yes, my name is Drake, John Drake.'
The opening voiceover ran a little differently in the States;
'Every government has its secret service. The United States has the CIA, France
the Deuxieme Bureau, England MI5.
NATO too has its secret service. A dirty job to be done? That's usually when
they call on me. Or someone like me.
By the way, my name is Drake, John Drake.
His catchphrase was later copied by agent 007 "My Name is Bond, James Bond"
(Locations quoted below are story locations. The majority of filming was done in
the UK)
