Premise
Gene Barry, star of Burke's Law, stars as Gene Bradley, a US Government
agent working undercover in the guise of a globe-trotting film star and
tycoon.
Billed as "Everybody's pin-up - nobody's fool", the actor failed to lift
the series out of the ordinary. Asked to "travel the world with The
Adventurer, in a series of vital, new and dynamic situations in which
every turn brings the zing of danger, drama and originality", viewers
might well have been forgiven for believing that they had seen it all
before.
Sad to say the series squandered the talent of actor Barry Morse.
Injected into the proceedings as Mr Parminter, Bradley's secret service
contact posing as the film star's manager-cum-producer, he was given
little to do beyond carry a total look of disbelief at the entire
proceedings.  Stuart Damon [one of the better things about the series] The Adventurer:,
disappeared without  explanation after 2 episodes!

Background:
In 1972 there was an FCC ruling in the States which gave the 7.30pm--8pm slot back to the independent stations.
"The Protectors" was specifically created to take advantage of this situation and was syndicated to tie-- in with
sponsor Faberge's area--by--area advertising.  "The Adventurer" was another such show., sponsored by Chevrolet.
(One reason why these were half hour shows). Lew Grade never let a business opportunity pass!! "The Protectors"
served its purpose as a "lead in" show to the stations Network offerings and a third series would have been made
but for a disagreement with Faberge who decided to stop sponsoring weekly TV series. Faberge would also have
contributed to the new "UFO:1999" series but it was not to be.
