ABC Prime time series for the summer seen at 10pm Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays
One hour program shown three times a week
Produced by Tony Converse
Directed by David Barnhizer (was the associate producer of 100 segments of the old Regis Philbin Show for Westinghouse)
Barnhizer's first job was at NBC in Chicago in 1953 as stage manager for Kukla, Fran and Ollie. His first big job as a
director was an adaptation of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol". He won four EMMYS in Chicago, including two for
directing and producing "Quillow and the Giant" a children's theater musical featuring Win Stracke. While in Chicago he
made 4,000 commercials. He says, "I think I hold the world's record", "I did 48 one-minute plugs in one day."
Barnhizer was invited to watch a pilot of a show called "The Star and the Story" a take-off on "This Is Your Life" with
Dick Cavett as the host. The program dealt with actor Van Johnson's life story and it was about three minutes old, when it
became apparent that Cavett knew all he wanted to know about Van Johnson",
Barnhizer says, "and he spoofed the rest of the show. I liked him immediately!"

Taped the day after the Woodstock festival ended, Dick welcomed several big name acts that had just performed there,
some still covered with mud. Recorded 'in the round' with a youthful audience, this show is a true time capsule of the time.
This show differ from the usual Cavett format, in that it's primarily a music program and is recorded 'in the-round' with
a young audience, many of who had attended the Woodstock festival. Dick opens the show wearing an exceptionally
groovy scarf, which he quickly ditches when he realizes how it looks on camera.

Headline act Jefferson Airplane opens the show, accompanied by very psychedelic graphics onscreen.
They join Dick afterwards on ottomans for a brief interview.
Grace Slick makes fun of the furniture and rolls her eyes repeatedly at Dick's questions.
Unannounced guest Stephen Stills joins the circle and performs "4 + 20".
Dick introduces a performer who skipped Woodstock to perform on this show:
Joni Mitchell, who performs "Chelsea Morning", plus two other songs.
The show wraps up with Jefferson Airplane and Stephen Stills performing the hit single "Somebody to Love".
The audience members get up and dance as the show ends.
