TV Review by Fred Danzig NEW YORK UPI
Goodson-Todman productions presented a new daytime program called "Say When" subtitled, "Son of Price Is Right".
If you hoped, as I did, that the start of a brand new year would inspire the network to shake off the discredited
discount broker approach to daytime TV fare, forget it. "Say When" is as shoddy a merchandise-hawking throwback as
has ever slithered into the network schedule.
It offers all sorts of prizes - from tinned ham to tinted mink - but is completely lacking in imagination, competition,
or the special sort of artistry that keeps "Price Is Right", popular.
The ritual starts with the enthusiastic off-camera voice shrieking, "It's time to .... "Say When!" The audience screams,
Art James the bright-eyed, vigorously cheerful host, tries to generate some more excitement and the audience yells such
words of wisdom as "take the luggage", or "take the cuff-links" to the contestants. James sees to it that the merchandise
is plugged and that the aspirin commercial gets on as scheduled. Say When? Enough already!
