This is the story of a rather unremarkable man who takes his dog for an evening walk. Only the dog returns
- and Markham is called upon to find out what happened. [RAH]
Critique:
Here we have an example of the 1950s, noir-style, detective-thriller at its best. This episode, more than any other
I have seen, clearly illustrates the potential the "Markham" series had. Milland was a consummate professional.
His supporting cast had nothing to apologize for. But it was only in rare instances that they were given a strong
script to work; then the show would really come together, as it does in "We Are All Suspect." The story's ending
manages to be at once dark and surprisingly poignant. It has a moral that still resonates today. [RAH]
Synopsis 2:
A woman seeks private investigator Roy Markham's help after her husband disappears. She tells Roy that her husband went

Willard Waterman ...... Mr. Collier
Henry Rowland ...... Police Officer
Richard Reeves ...... Doorman
Mike Mahoney ...... Building Superintendent
John Weston ...... Spencer Combs
Synopsis:
"It was the coldest night of an arctic New York winter..." begins the noir-style, voice-over narration that opens
the show. In this episode, Markham tries to face-down a ruthless blackmailer. For his trouble, he finds himself
locked out on the balcony of a penthouse during a raging blizzard. The heartless attacker toasts Markham through
a window as he watches his victim slowly freeze to death. It will take all the detective's powers of ingenuity to
turn the tables on this cold-hearted killer. [RAH]
Critique:
Certainly one of the ten-best episodes of this rather uneven series. Script is powerful and exciting. Only loses
points for the final minute of the show, in which the story's strong resolution is blunted, and a safe "made for TV"
style ending is inserted. The compromise ending is both illogical and out of step with this episode's bold tone. [RAH]
Trivia:
Although the credits do not mention the fact, the script for this show was based on a short-story
that appeared in Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine. [RAH]

[--] 28July60 - pre-empted for coverage of the Republican National Convention.

Tommy Nolan ...... Jimmy Standish
Henry Corden ...... Henry Cowell
Gail Bonney ...... Mrs. Cowell
Synopsis:
"How do you prove the identity of a man known to every police force in the world -- but who has never had his
picture taken?" Ray Milland asks this question of his audience, using the classic first-person narrative style that
is one of the trademarks of this series. Markham's paper boy resents the boyfriend his mother plans to marry. Markham
suspects typical childhood jealousy is at play...but could the boy's instincts be based on something more? [RAH]
Critique:
Another excellent example of this series. I would rate this among the ten best episodes I have seen. It packs a lot of
story into its half-hour running time, but no plot element seems rushed or compromised to achievethis specific length.
The script is not a white-knuckle mystery; more of a human interest story, with a breezy sense of fun. [RAH]
