Premise:
Stories of the San Diego Police Department
News Article "Syracuse Herald" 08Oct59:
"I think this is the sort of series you will have to watch four or five weeks,"
Victor Jory said. "It has to
build a following, sort of let the viewer get the feel of the show." Jory the
star of the new "Manhunt" series
admitted that he might have a few qualms about the show. "Will we be confused
with the other detective series?"
he repeated a question put to him. "I'm always worried about that". Jory
considers "Manhunt" to be a dialogue
series, not an action show. He pointed out that "there is a minimum of violence.
In the first 11 episodes I only
fire my gun twice and there is just one fight." Although Manhunt concerns the
activities of the San Diego police
department, the stories are not necessarily from official files, the star
explained. However, all are based on
fact and there is a good chance that this could be the most accurate of any
police series.
"They keep a lieutenant of detectives with us at all times," Jory said. "And,
the San Diego police have to pass
on every script. There's no fooling around about that either. If they don't pass
on a story we don't do it."
Jory was a bit apprehensive about taking on a series, but three factors finally
persuaded him. "First of all,
the money is fantastic. It places me in the 85 to 90 per cent bracket. "Second,
I have a nice home and family,
but I seldom had a chance to see them. This means now I'll be home at least a
year. And, I now have 10 weeks off
for the first time. It's wonderful. I have no need, financial or otherwise, to
be working during that time."

Finucane and Detective Peters check all areas and fail to come up with the
whereabouts of the Woodsons. Later a
handyman who has worked for the Woodsons is found shot to death in an empty lot.
Eighteen hours later a frightened
Mrs. Woodson appears at the receiving hospital to claim her child. Finucane
breaks her down and she admits that her
husband is being held prisoner by Charles Comerford, an escaped convict. She was
sent from their 'prison', a cabin
in the country, to bring back supplies and medicine. Finucane accompanies Mrs.
Woodson back to the cabin disguised
as a doctor and Peters stations himself outside the house dressed as a telephone
lineman. Comerford becomes suspicious
and knocks out Finucane. He makes a run for it and Peters, armed with a carbine
atop a telephone pole, drops Comerford
in his tracks. [RF]

evidence to Finucane and Peters. When the empty truck is found with the murdered
driver, Dorothy breaks down and
discloses that Jim offered Olson $5,000 to help him hi-jack the guns. Knowing
that the hijackers will have difficulty
removing the guns from the area, Police-reporter Andrews feels they will ship
via boat. Andrew's guess is substantiated
when the hijackers buy a large tuna boat. As soon as the guns are loaded on the
boat, Finucane rushes the vessel. After
an exchange of bullets, the gang is taken prisoner. [RF]

Synopsis:
Blackmail leads to the beating of a man in his own home and the police do some
digging to uncover the facts
of what really happened. [RF]

Carl Spencer is beaten unconscious in his home by an unknown assailant. Lt.
Finucane and Police-reporter Andrews
question Spencer in the hospital, but are unable to uncover any motive for the
act. Finucane and Andrews follow
Spencer home and meet Mrs. Marshall. Spencer, still claiming to remember nothing
of the attack tells them Mrs. Marshall
is an old friend. Later, police learn from a newsboy that a man in grease
stained over-alls came to the Spencer home
on the day of the attack. Finucane visits Mrs. Marshall and sees a picture of
her son, Ken, which matches the newsboy's
description of the housebreaker. Finucane follows Ken to an oil company, where
he is furthering his studies in geology.
After a wild chase up an oil derrick, Finucane finally catches Ken. Then, he
learns from Mrs. Marshall that Spencer
had been blackmailing her and her son had gone to the Spencer home to recover
the letters which were the basis for his
illegal actions. Caught while looking for the letters, Ken had beaten Spencer
unconscious. [RF]

hater into meeting him the
following day. At the appointed spot, Finucane decides to handle the job by
himself. Detective Peters is ordered
out of the area. The sniper starts shooting at Finucane, and wounds him in the
leg. Peters hops a motorcycle
and returns to the meeting place. Just as the killer is about to kill the
Lieutenant, Peters rides up the hill
and draws his fire. While the sniper is distracted, Finucane finishes him off. [RF]
