While writing their letter to Santa Claus, the youngest Ruggles (Donna & Donald) give the family an idea to help someone less fortunate this Xmas. Eldest daughter Sharon suggests a schoolmate named Elaine who recently lost her dad.
They surprise Elaine with a home-cooked dinner and their friendship, but they get a surprise in return. It seems Elaine is quite happy and leads a very full life. And, wow, is she a great singer. [RL]

Several sources list this as the 1949 Christmas episode. But there are clues that indicate that this is the Dec. 13, 1951 episode. For example, Sharon mentions her boyfriend Jeff (who made his series debut around Dec. 1951) and her (past) high school graduation (which took place on 21May1950).
