"Cannonball" theme song:-
Barrelin' down the highway, Wheelin' right along.
Hear the tires hummin', Hummin' out a song.
The rumble of the diesel, The shiftin' of the gears.
The rhythm when he's rollin', It's music to his ears.
Cannon-ba--ll!, Cannon-ba--ll!
Any kind of weather, Any time of day.
When the rig is ready, He'll be on his way.
He'll carry any cargo, He'll go anywhere.
Name the destination, And brother he'll be there.
Cannon-ba--ll!, Cannon-ba--ll!

" I loved this show
7:00 PM Friday nights, Channel 2 = Greensboro, NC 1960?1961?
`The Iron Lung' was a real tear jerker! The story begins with Mike & Jerry
in a diner; they are discussing the recent storm that knocked out power to
some areas close by, a distraught parent or grandparent runs in needing to
use the phone but they are out everywhere. He needs an ambulance to take
his daughter or granddaughter to the hospital because she is on an
iron lung and can't breath without it and it needs ELECTRICITY of which
he has none at home; and mom or grandma is home pumping the lung manually
until he returns. Mike and Jerry decide to help as best they can, go home
with the guy, where mom/grandma is about to collapse. They load the iron
lung in the trailer, heading to the nearest hospital, which is across the
US-Canadian border. Mike drives, Jerry rides in the trailer pumping the
iron lung. The roads are mess, maybe the main ones are out, as I recall
but the excitement really builds as Mike approaches the border because
he is not about to stop at the checkpoint. Approaching the border stop,
he lays on the air horn, increases speed and blasts through the gate,
alerting & bringing to life all the U.S. border patrol at the gate. Mike
refuses to stop for their lights and sirens either, and heads straight
for the hospital. All is forgiven, of course, after Mike stops the rig at
the hospital and opens the rear of the trailer with the young girl and
Jerry, who is now worn out from pumping . . . . The Iron Lung.

Maybe you can get a decent synopsis from this! (Or maybe I'll just refresh
someone else's memory enough to recite the real story line. It was a long
time ago, but that is the way I remember it.)
Nice work; thanks for the memory!

I remember all those episodes , not only did I watch them , my father
had started a small trucking company in 1952 ,and i was lucky enough
to get over to the Kingsway terminal once., Mind you, I did not get
close, but it was sure a thrill to watch beyond the barred off area
all the excitement at the other end where they were filming . Long
lost to many changes in my life are the photos of Mike and Jerry
( black and white in those days ) but at least they were signed ...
I did manage to keep one article from a trucking magazine that I am
very careful with ( October 1958) ..
I was looking all over for the words to the song, and now that I
have your site I finally have them , I wonder is the music theme
still around , I would certainly like to hook it up to the web site
I created on the history of my father's trucking
company
Thank you so every much for all the time and trouble you went to to
post all this wonderful stuff, It brought tears to my eyes.

Hi, My name is Jeffrey Doig and I really liked your web site for Cannonball.
As a kid I used to watch it on channel nine here in Detroit. I still
remember the Theme song by heart. And it looks like I got most of words
right. I'm not sure what episode it was, Maybe you can help, And I don't
remember the plot but I think it was their dispatcher that got a brand new
car. ( a Metropolitan) Mike and Jerry borrowed it got into an adventure
with it. And when they brought it back it was covered with mud. The only
clean spot was where the windshield wipers wiped it clean. They parked it
behind their truck jumped in and drove away. I can still see the look on
the owners face when the truck pulled away and there was his brand new car
all covered with mud. Funny what you remember after 40 years.
Anyway great site. If there is any way of getting a recording of the theme
song let me know. Thanks again,
