US Game Show 1949-50

Host Dick Lane
Announcer Bud Stefan

Directed by Klaus Landsberg (remote) and Gordon Minter (studio) [Billboard May 7, 1949]

Premise: Talk-quiz charades show similar to "Pantomime Quiz".
Movietown takes the viewer each week into a different film personality's drawing room for a close-up of the stars playing the old parlor game. Participants are
divided into two groups - Adams and Eves - while the board of experts judges the battle between the sexes from the studio. This keeps the show switching from studio to home.
Permanent judges are radio director Charley Vanda, publicist Helen Ferguson and writer Carroll Carroll with Keith Hetherington capably handling studio emcess chores.
Teams based in the Beverly Hills home consisted of Joy Lansing, Jeanne Cagney and Trudy Marshall vs. George Byam, Kim Spalding and Phil Raffin with Dick Lane as emcess.

*Note: "Movietown" replaced "Pantomime Quiz" which started on this station and has moved to KTTV,

Biography: [Long Beach Independent September 3, 1950]
Host Dick Lane began as an actor Richard Lane. While wandering around on the Paramount lot one day, he noticed a building labeled, "Television Productions". He wandered in
and met Klaus Landsberg, talked with him for a couple of minutes and walked out as an all-around TV personality named Dick Lane. When a major TV cast comes along you'll be
sure to hear Dick's famous voice, it might be from the docks as troops sail to war, it might be the scene of an explosion, a tragedy like the Kathy Fiscus, wrestling,
dance band, variety show, quiz show or symphony orchestra .... he is equally as good on each. Dick left his farm home in Wisconsin at the age of 16, and with his wife Esther,
went to New York. There he bounced around and finally got some small parts in Broadway shows. He emceed and his wife danced and this went on until they were noticed by
producers and they landed major roles in several shows. This led to 61 weeks in "George White's Scandals" Hollywood, movies and now TV.
Dick and Esther have two children Barry and Victoria and a nice home in Beverly Hills.

For the first time in TV history on the West Coast the movies will tie-in with this new medium to present some plugs on a new motion picture.
Klaus Landsberg, dynamic head of KTLA, has arranged for the old master, Cecil B. DeMille, to present members of the cast of "Samson and Delilah" on "Movietown R.S.V.P.
The trend was started a couple of weeks ago when some of the "Johnny One-Eye" cast appeared, but this full scale invasion of a movie cast is different.
The KTLA (5) stage will be decorated with sets from the movie and the various characters will appear in costume.
