Premise:
The story of Billy Fisher, a 19-year-old who prefers fantasies to life's
realities
British writer Keith Waterhouse created the character Billy Fisher in his Novel
"Billy Liar" (1950s) which became a Stage Play,
then a Film "Billy Liar" starring Tom Courtenay (1963), and a UK sitcom "Billy
Liar" (1973)
There was another sitcom called "Billy" in 1992 on ABC starring Billy Connolly,
which had no connection with this series

After taking a six-week course in radio broadcasting, Billy applies for a job at
the local radio station, WBK.
He gets an interview at the station, and daydreams about being a famous radio
disk jockey and eventually a media
mogul who hires Don Adams for a starring role in a situation comedy. However,
dozens upon dozens have applied
for the same job. Billy almost loses his job at the funeral parlor while
interviewing for the radio job, but his
friend, Arthur Milliken saves his hide. [RL]
