Synopsis:
Johnny Staccato, a failed jazz pianist, earns his living as a private detective. He has no office but can usually be
found at "Waldo's" jazz club in New York Greenwich Village, where he sometimes sits in with the resident band. One night
Johnny gets a call record producer Senator Bly. Bly tells him that his top singer Freddie Tate has gone all to pieces.
A.J. Templar, publisher of a scandal magazine called "The Naked Truth" is blackmailing Freddie and Bly wants Johnny to
do something about it. Johnny goes to see Teplar to warn him off. As soon as Johnny has left, Templar orders his henchman
Lotsie to kill Johnny. Lotsie stabs Freddie in mistake for Johnny. Templar and Lotsie now both go after Johnny. Johnny
manages to ram Lotsie against a wall by driving at him in his car. He next shoots Templar dead in self defense. The case
ends with Johnny going on a date with Templar's gorgous secretary Dee Dee (Ruta Lee). [DWMcG]

Synopsis:
Lester Prince, a once-popular bandleader is making a comeback with an instrumental tune titled "Life" that Jerry Lindstrom
composed, but Prince claimed credit for it. Somebody out there is trying to poison Lester, and he asks Staccato for help
to find the culprit, but then Prince himself is murdered, Johnny has four suspects in mind. [JB]

 Synopsis:
Four people have been brutally and sadistically beaten to death in the Little Tokyo area of New York. The last victim
was a friend of Johnny Staccato from his time in the army. Johnny's friend had called on him for help but he died before
Johnny got to see him. Johnny now goes about to find the murderer. His investigations lead him to the "Shop of the Four
Winds", where he finds that the owner is Casper, another man who Johnny knows from his army days - a man Johnny knows

Synopsis:
A beautiful young blonde girl arriving home at her apartment late at night is attacked by a young man with a flick knife.
She manages to beat him off and he runs away. He is Dave who works as a bartender at Waldo's. Dave goes back to Waldo's
where he is rebuked by Johnny Staccato for being away from the bar at a busy time. Dave says he was having a smoke. Later
Johnny confides to Waldo his suspicions of Dave. Dave's former wife, a beautiful young blonde had left him, and as a result
he had spent some time in a mental institution. Now four young blonde girls have been attacked in the neighborhood by an
unknown man. Dave admits his guilt but says he cannot help himself. Johnny and Waldo agree to take him to see Father Keeley,
a priest Dave respects, who could persuade him to give himself up and seek help. On the way, however, Dave breaks away,
climbs to the roof of a high building and threatens to jump. [DWMcG]

When a little old lady, Beatrice, gives all her money away to Brother Max, a phony evangelist who preaches against evil,
her brother, Barney goes to Johnny Staccato for help. John goes to one of Max's meetings held in an old mission hall.
He finds that Max has his congregation of derelicts, no-hopers and rejects, spellbound by his oratory. When Johnny tries
to tell them that Max is a fraud they bodily eject him from the mission and throw him into a trash can. Max admits to
Johnny that he is a fraud, but states that the hope and faith that he gives the people is worth the money they give him

Fay Linn (Elizabeth Montgomery) clerk at a jewelry store closes up shop and goes to see Johnny Staccato at Waldo's.
She tells Johnny that she has always preferred him to her husband from whom she is now separated. She wants Johnny to
help her. She tells him that a valuable necklace which should have been locked in the vault at the store, has been mislaid
and now the vault is locked and she has the necklace with her. Fearing for its safekeeping she wants Johnny to go with her
to her employee's house to give him the necklace. Johnny takes the necklace from her and sets out with her. On the way
Johnny is set upon and robbed. But he had switched the necklace for a phoney and still has the real one. Fulton, an
insurance investigator tells Johnny the necklace has been stolen and that he suspects Fay. Fay is absolutely gorgeous and
Johnny is tremendously attracted to her, but does not altogether trust. He sets a trap to discover the truth about her,
but it is not as her would have hoped for. [DWMcG]

He traces Joe and Turk but they deny any knowledge of Dick's whereabouts. Johnny does not believe them and follows them to
an old house where they have Dick locked up. At the end of the case Dick is free but Joe and Turk are dead and Johnny

Synopsis:
Stella, a hostess at a nightclub, is murdered one night after returning home. Sgt. Joe. Gillin, a detective with the
N.Y.P.D. tells Johnny Staccato that he suspects McGill, a crippled ex-jockey and friend of Johnny's, to be the murderer.
Johnny is not convinced and decides to investigate the crime himself. He finds where McGill is hiding, but he does not
inform the police. He next visits the nightclub discovering that Gillin was interested in Stella, Johnny thinks Gillin
killed Stella until Gillin is given a cast iron alibi. Following this Johnny finds that Stella had a mysterious protector,
a Mr. Poppa. When he finds out who Mr. Poppa is a much sadder and disappointed man. [DWMcG]

in an old derelict house. Eddie thinks that Johnny has the plates and has him beaten up. He then gives Johnny two hours
