########### The Man Who Never Was ############
############### about the show ###############
##############################################

Robert Lansing stars as Peter Murphy, an American agent fleeing from
the East German secret police. His pursuers open fire. A man falls
dead. By an odd quirk of fate, the police have shot a wealthy businessman
- Mark Wainwright - who is Murphy's 'double'.

By doing so they offer Murphy a bizarre escape route. He decides to
masquerade as Wainwright even down to taking over the dead man's wife
played by Dana Wynter and his fortune.

Wainwright's widow agrees to go along with the ruse and schools
Murphy in her husbands mannerisms and eccentricities.

The crunch comes when Murphy tries to keep up the guise in public.
He has to appear convincing at board meetings and business conferences.
And what about the other aspects of the dead man's life? His family,
friends, business contacts, and former girl friends, for Wainwright was a wealthy playboy.

Each episode is filmed in a different European country. Murphy's
charade is the key to each episode. The suspense hinges on his efforts to stay alive.

Outside their relationship, only one other person knows Murphy's
true identity. He is Colonel Jack Forbes played by Murray Hamilton,
head of the intelligence unit that Murphy works for.

The title of the series was borrowed from the original war film
'The Man who Never Was' starring Clifton Webb and Stephen Boyd.
