Background:
As reported in February 1974, a proposed 30-minute series by Jack Webb's Mark VII Productions is titled Fraud.
It stars Frank Sinatra Jr. and Sharon Gless (Cagney & Lacy, Burn Notice). They were members of the LAPD Major
Fraud Squad which also starred Ed Nelson (Peyton Place) as the Deputy District Attorney. The pilot, filmed as
Fraud Squad, which involved medical fraud at a clinic was directed by Webb.
The unaired pilot would be later recut into an Adam-12 episode with Officers Reed and Malloy now appearing, although
for less than a minute, discovering the medical fraud device. The Adam-12 episode aired as 'Clinic on 18th Street' (6.24)
on March 13, 1974. Advertised as a "special", this episode did not air in the usual Adam-12 (1968-1975) Tuesday timeslot
and aired the next day on Wednesday, the last episode of the season. Fraud Squad, which was not a spin-off of Adam-12
(although it appeared as such when it aired as an Adam-12 episode) as the pilot had been originally filmed without
the A-12 characters, was never developed. [RY]
