Gracie's a pleasure to watch, cheating her way into a ladies' club with the help of friendly Mrs. Sohmers. She has to pass a little test to join the club. But Mrs. Sohmers sneaks her the questions in advance. The best laughs come from Gracie's wide eyed, eager antics. (11June1956 Chicago Tribune review, episode postponed until 10Sep56)
George and Gracie launch their new season by returning to their home in California and employing a rather questionable method of assuring acceptance in a fashionable neighborhood club. (10Sep1956 Chicago Tribune)
The new season starts off amusingly as the snobbish Mrs. Sohmers offers to help Gracie join a ladies' club. gracie must answer some literary questions. Although she has no difficulty memorizing the questions, she can't recall the answers. Just watching Gracie's surprise when she comes up with a co rre ct reply is delightful. A psychiatrist (Dabbs Greer) meets his mental match in Gracie.
A psychiatrist learns too late he has made a big mistake when he unwittingly attempts to psychoanalyze Gracie.
After a psychiatrist attempts to psychoanalyze Grace, he stops in to have a serious talk with George. Because the visit is unexpected, George, the doctor and Harry Von Zell get mixed up in a three-way mistaken identity triangle. [JB]

Gracie goes to a psychiatrist instead of Blanche, and almost convinces him sh e's sane. Then George takes over and gently toys with the poor doctor.

As a student in one of Dr. Frank Baxter's Shakespearean classes at the university, Ronnie gets an assignment to do a paper on the immortal bard.
Dr. Frank C. Baxter, noted Shakespearean authorit y and professor at the University of Southern California, finds himself dealing with some unusual views of the famed bard. Gracie secretly rewrites one of Ronnie's assignments to help him get what she thinks will be a better grade. [JB]
Gracie, who can rattle anyone, concentrates tonight on Shakespearean scholar Dr. Frank Baxter. She wants to help son Ronnie get better grades in his Shakespeare course at college.

Gracie uses Harry Morton's rare stamp to mail a letter.
The simple mailing of a letter wreaks havoc in the Burns' household when Gracie, in need of three cents worth of postage, inadvertently uses a priceless stamp from neighbor Harry Morton's valuable collection.
Gracie will frighten dyed-in-the-wool philatelists tonight, as she mails a rare stamp from H a rry Morton's collection. George, as usual, contributes some appropriate tongue-in-cheek remarks.

In an attempt to get a raise, Harry Von Zell tells George he is getting married. Gracie takes him literally and begins making elaborate preparations for Harry's nuptials. [JB]
Harry Von Zell gets himself a boost in salary tonight...but almost at the risk of his standing as a bachelor. Funny moments come when Harry turns angrily on George, and later when George toys with a trick television set. The closing routine gives Gracie the chance to describe her bold ancestor, Daniel Allen, frontiersman.

Gracie has a plan to keep son Ronnie from leaving college but it boomerangs. She tells Ronnie that George's lack of a formal educ ation is the reason he's made bad investments. This makes Ronnie even more determined to get a full-time job in order to support his penniless father. [JB]

Mistaken identity puts George in jail for Christmas.
George faces the somewhat disturbing prospect of spending Christmas in jail after being identified as a smooth working jewel swindler.
George nearly lands in jail when he attempts to exchange the string of pearls he bought Gracie. George doesn't know that Gracie replaced the real pearls with imitation ones. [JB]
A delightful Christmas show, opening with George in jail. You'll like his monolog behind bars...and he sings. Gracie and Blanche figure out ways to con their husbands into buying them the right presents.
Thi s epi sode finds George in the "pokey." George narrates the events of the few days before, recounting an almost Shakespearean comedy of errors. Blanche and Gracie conspire to trick their husbands into buying exactly what they want for Christmas, a jeweled watch and a pearl necklace. Yet again, George is caught in the whirlpool of confusion when Gracie does a favor for her son. With elegantly timed precision, Grace Allen delivers her lines, as George expertly provides the material that will spark Gracie's humor. (Video description)

Ronnie takes an aptitude test. So, naturally, Gracie thinks George should have one too, on the assumption that he might have been happier as a farmer. An entertaining session, with Gracie getting the biggest laughs.
7.21  Burns and Allen: GOING TO PALM SPRINGS

Gracie uses deceit to get a trip to Palm Springs.
Gracie tries to coerce George into taking a weekend jaunt to Palm Springs, by plotting with a doctor to prescribe the trip for George's health. [JB]
Gracie is working on George for a Palm Springs vacation and Ronnie is begging his dad to stay home. The most effective moments come when Gracie spins in and out of George's office tryin g t o get him to change his mind. Saying "no" to Gracie only brings about more scenes with her, which makes this an amusing episode.

Gracie, who believes whatever she is told, falls for a fortune teller's prediction of sudden wealth. She stages a one-woman buying spree which nearly sends George to the poorhouse. Not one of their better shows, but amusing.
7.24  Burns and Allen: FIGHTING FOR HAPPINESS

Gracie is upset when her marriage lacks conflict.
The Burns' next door neighbors, the Mortons, have a fight, and after resolving their differences they find Gracie deliberately plotting a battle with George just for the joy of making up.
When neighbors Harry and Blanche Morton appear happier than ever after patching up a fight, Gracie decides that the only way she and George can be happy is by having a fight too. [JB]
In an attempt to keep her marriage happy, Gracie decides to provoke George into an argument. She figures reconciliation will make them happier than ever before, since it had that effect on their next-door neighbors, the Mortons. When nothing else seems to rile George, Gracie starts off the fireworks telling George that he has a terrible singing voice. [JB]
Gracie watches a young married couple fight and make up, then she gets the Mortons to do the same. Her problem is this: She can't get George mad enough to fight so that she can get a shot at the kissing part. First half is the most fun, as Gracie thinks of ways to cause trouble.

The Burns' kitchen is a scene of chaos when Gracie tells George that she's lost her engagement ring.
Gracie is in rare form. She gives her engagement ring to Ronnie, her son, then asks Blanche to help her think up a believable explanation for George. She also has fun bantering with a plumber. Enjoyab le session.

In an attempt to remember a phone number for her friend Blanche, Gracie inadvertently involves Mary Livingstone in a phone conversation with Blanche. [JB]
Ronnie gets in trouble when Gracie has her plumber's four daughters staying at their house.
The Burns' friend, Mary Livingstone, becomes involved in one of Gracie's contrived situations.
Gracie learns how to remember telephone numbers by associating the number with familiar words or objects. Naturally, she gets a wrong number a nd ends up talking to Mary Livingstone. George has a good monologue on doling out money to Ronnie and Gracie. Up to par.
7.29  Burns and Allen: GOING TO HOUSTON

Gracie's scheme to keep one of Ronnie's USC classmates in school brings the gang to Houston.
The Burns family lands in Houston, Tex., as a result of Gracie's plan to keep Ronnie's friend in college.
In an attempt to convince the father of one of Ronnie's college friends that the boy should complete his college education, Gracie finds herself en route to Houston, Texas. [JB]
Ronnie has a school pal whose father has ordered him to return home. Gracie thinks she can change the father's mind and flies t o Houston to do so. The best lines belong to Gracie, particularly near the end when she describes Blanche Morton as a foreign language teacher.
7.30  Burns and Allen: THE STRAY DOG

When she arrives in Houston, Gracie checks into an exclusive hotel which absolutely forbids pets of any kind. This does not deter Gracie from befriending a stray poodle. [JB]
Some pleasing moments with Gracie and a poodle. She's still in that Houston hotel which doesn't allow pets so, naturally, she comes up with an adorable poodle. Charming as ever.
7.31  Burns and Allen: RONNIE GETS A MOVIE ROLE

Ronnie's hectic schedule disrupts the household.
The Burns' household is disrupted as a result of R onnie's h ectic school schedule.
Ronnie's part in the movie "Bernardine" requires him to be on the set early in the morning. Fearing that George will not approve of the interruptions in his son's college curriculum, Gracie attempts to keep Ronnie's movie work a secret.

When the Burns' plumber, a widower with four grown daughters, announces that he's looking for a wife, Gracie volunteers to handle the details of placing an ad in the personal column. But a young and attractive girl answers the ad and it's evident Gracie has stretched the truth quite a bit! [TA/JB]
Gracie tries to find a wife for her new friend, the plumber, played by Howard McNear. The plumber is a pretty good foil for Gracie, making her lines seem even daffier. Gracie plants an ad for a wife in the paper, and you'll like her reasoning on the amount of truth found in the personal columns.
7.33  Burns and Allen: HARRY RETURNS EARLY - aka - HARRY'S HOMECOMING

Gracie and Blanche have been complaining that their husbands have lost their romantic spark. George finally decides on a scheme to teach them a lesson, and persuades Harry to Pose as an amorous Frenchman to test Blanche. [JB]
Gracie and her neighbor, Blanche, feel their husbands aren't as romantic as they should be. To put George in the proper mood, Gracie cooks him a breakfast complete with candles and crepes suz ette. The first half is the funniest with Gracie as a seductive, half-crazy housewife.
7.34  Burns and Allen: THE PUBLICITY ROMANCE

A publicity-stunt romance causes trouble for Ronnie.
Ronnie has a difficult time convincing his girl friend Kathy that the "romance" between him and a shapely starlet is only movie publicity. Gracie adds to the dilemma by having Harry von Zell pose as the starlet's Italian-born father. [JB]
Nicely balanced comedy show. Gracie is charming when she asks Ronnie to tell her about his big evening out with an Italian actress. Then George Burns has some wry observations in his monolog about the value of publicity agents. Harry Morton turns out to have a very fine "mast ery" of the Italian language.
7.35  Burns and Allen: THE TEXAN LADY MacBETH

A classmate of Ronnie's prevails upon George and Gracie to help convince his star-struck, Hollywood-bound sister that show business is not for her.
One of Ronnie's classmates is upset when his sister decides she wants a career in show business. He prevails on Gracie to convince the girl that life on the stage is not as glamorous as it would appear. [JB]

Ronnie makes a down payment on a sleek 2 2 foot cruiser but runs into rough waters at home.
George is really at sea when son Ronnie makes a down payment on an expensive boat. Gracie comes to Ronnie's rescue in a scheme to convince George that the boat is a necessity for their health. [JB]
Son Ronnie wants to buy a boat, if he can get his father's consent. Gracie holds a meeting with friend Blanche and Harry von Zell to dream up an idea to convince George that his son needs a boat. Thinks get pretty funny as Gracie attempts to use correct parliamentary procedure. Also an amusing routine at the end when Gracie tells about her cousin, "Boulder" Allen, engineer.

A classmate of Ronnie's is so impressed with Gracie's knack for getting people out of embarrassing situations that he brings his problem to her. After nine years, the collegian has flunked out again, and his wealthy Texas father is en route to be present at the boy's graduation. [JB]
More on Brian, the Texan who is friends with Ronnie Burns. Brian is flunking college, but his father is arriving to see him graduate. Gracie is asked to save the day. This has more appeal for youngsters than older fans.

Since husband Harry is scheduled to make an out of town business trip, Blanche Morton seizes the opportunity to invite her mother for a visit. Knowing that Harry and his mother-in-law do not take kindly to each other, Gracie offers to help when Harry's business trip is suddenly canceled. [JB]

At the prospect of his 21st birthday, Ronnie discovers that coming of age can be a problem. Especially when an attractive young girl does not hesitate to propose. De sperately Ronn ie considers a fast trip out of the country. [JB]
The teenagers will like this one. Ronnie's going to be 21 and a cute girl proposes to him. She's so tempting, he finds it hard to say no. Gracie rises to the occasion and reveals herself as the right kind of mother to have.
