HANDS OF MURDER/ HANDS OF DESTINY / HANDS OF MYSTERY
Dumont Network Television
Created by Lawrence Menkin
Producer James Caddigan
Director Frank Bunett
Written by Lawrence Menkin and Charles Speer

US Anthology Series 1949-52

Premise: A mystery/anthology series

*NOTE: Soon after it went on the air, "Hands of Murder" had been showered with warm
reviews by Variety and Billboard; sharp-tongued critics like Walter Winchell
had written words of approval of its camera work, its pulse rating, which had
started at 2, moved to 12 and kept right on going.

"Hands of Murder" first came on the air as an experiment. During last summer, Dumont's
"Program Playhouse" presented a different type of show each week, serving as a showcase for audience and sponsor
reaction. On one of these shows, "Hands of Murder" was presented. The reaction was almost unanimously favorable.

TRIVIA:
Originally entitled "Hands of Murder",
the series was retitled "Hands of Destiny" in April 1950.
In September, 1950, it was retitled "Hands of Mystery", and in October, 1951 it was again retitled "Hands of Destiny",
remaining as such until its final broadcast in April 1952.

STORYLINE:
The accent is always on "why done it," rather than "who done it." Each of these murder mystery dramas,
complete in itself, presents an intense story of subjective, psychological terror.
Hands commit murder. But these hands merely obey the mind of the murderer.
Hands are the vehicle through which the depths of human passion are funnelled nto one final act of violence.
Therefore, this program presents one of the first murder mystery devices designed exclusively for television.

The television camera is utilized to its fullest extent, bringing to the audience close-ups into actual character,
motivation and conflict. With many scenes, plus tricky lighting and a minimum of settings, "Hands of Murder" gives
the impression of a rapid-fire, suspense-packed movie without the use of film. For example, a recent "Hands of Murder"
script called for 34 different scenes and more than 300 shots, and yet, not one set was used during the entire play!

NOTE: As the program took off, it began airing across the country on different days from Thursdays in the Midwest,
to Saturdays and Sundays on the West Coast.
